Stealing street signs?
ok well me and some friends are in this little race thing where we have to steal the best street sign from around town. Well me and my friend found the perfect one b/c its my last name gaffney lane. Well how do you steal it and can you get in big trouble for it?
hahaha, my dad always says... 'if your gonna steal, dont get caught.' I would help you if i was near you, haha. Sounds like funn!
it is a criminal offence don't get caught
When I was a kid, one of the guys in my neighborhood had a girlfriend named Linda, so a group of us tried to steal the Linda Street sign.
We used metal cutters, and hiked each other up the sign post. We got busted, but the cops were cool, and let us go with a warning.
However, this was over 30 years ago; I don't think the cops are as lenient these days...
Instead of stealing it, just take a photograph.
Why would you go around with friends that encourage you to steal things? That's not right.
What if you get caught, and they chicken out? You'll be made to look pretty stupid.
So just take the picture, let your friend go to jail instead of you.
Yes you can. In one case some guys were found guilty in manslaughter for stealing. Get another hobby!
This is from CNN:
TAMPA, Florida (CNN) -- Three defendants were sentenced to 15 years each in state prison Friday for uprooting a stop sign at an intersection where three teen-agers were killed in a crash a few hours later.
Nissa Baillie, 21, Thomas Miller, 20, and Christopher Cole, 20, each faced 27 to 46 years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter in the incident. It is believed to be the first U.S. case in which the removal of a traffic sign has led to a manslaughter conviction.
Cole, Baillie and Miller were each sentenced to 30 years in state prison, with a suspended sentence after 15 years, and five years of probation Friday on four counts of manslaughter. Under Florida law, convicts must serve at least 85 percent of a sentence, meaning at least 13 years in prison for the three.
thats a misameaner atleast.
depending on past crimal record you could do 6 monthes in jail for that if you are over 18.
which i dont belive you are.
and my dad has a collection of street signs from when he was growing up.
email me with quitons
I don't know how you steal it, but yes you can get in 'big' trouble for it, you're stealing, it's just like if you were going into someone's house and stealing something from them.
Crime? Yes. You are taking something which you do not own, which makes it theft. You could go to jail for this. Is that what you are willing to risk? Don't do the crime if you are not willing to do the time...
Better to contact the city/county and see if you can legitimately purchase a sign for your own.
No you cannot get in BIG trouble just a warning or something like that.Believe me i used to steal them when i was 14yrs and i got caught about 10 during my stealing spree. And never ever got a ticket.Take a mini ladder if you are short like me and take some utility tools.
Well, me and some friends better grown up in a hurry. it is theft, and could result in criminal prosecution.
it is against the law and will carry jail time , stiff penalities and you will have to pay back the city or country for every one you damage, and they are damaged goods when you steal them. time to grow up, ya think!
It's very illegal, and if someone gets hurt because of the sign being removed all parties to the removal of signs can be LEGALLY liable for manslaugther/murder/other serious crimes if anyone is hurt because of the missing sign. It doesn't have to even be the sign you removed to be liable, since you're a party to the group, legally you're just as responsible as the person removing it.
