Is it true?

Hiya, i am just curious to know if you have to pay council tax if you live in a big static caravan or not?

my husband read somewhere that it is becoming (or is) law, for someone who stays in a caravan to live else where, so that they have to pay the council tax.

is that true?

we are thinking about buying a static caravan, and we thought it was a huge plus side with not having to pay council tax, then we found out about us having to live else where, for 1 week in 4.

if i have got this all wrong, please correct me.

thanks for any genuine replies

i dont know but if youre on a caravan site, the site will be paying council tax. sounds like a good plan though, might try that myself with my tent!
I don't think so, I used to collect insurance money from people who lived in static caravans permanently. They were on a site though, so had to pay site fees every year. You need to find out properly, ask your local council offices.

I'm 99 percent sure that you'll only have to pay your ground rent, and no council tax.The reason for that is that most sites shut down for 2 months out of the year, and are therefore able to escape paying it.
I have a mate who lost his job,and had to sell his house. He bought a decent caravan with the profit, and now says that if he had a choice between a caravan or a house,it'd be a van every time.As daft as it sounds,he says theres no crime, everyones friendly, and you can leave your doors open.Sounds like the UK 30 years ago to me.Chill out time.
no you will be fine, you only have to pay ground rent, all the best
where would you park it? if on a mobile home site (sorry, park home park) you would be paying ground rent and council tax, if in a layby or field you wouldn't but you would constantly be moved on
If you live permanently in a caravan or mobile home you will pay the council tax. If it is your holiday home, it will be liable for council tax but will have a 10% -50% discount because no one lives there on a permanent basis. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life...

Not only this, but I came across a report that people who live in mobile homes may be further penalised under a Tory government if they have a particularly pleasant view! http://www.conservatives.com/tile.do?def...
