Full age; legal age; age at which a person is no longer a minor. The age at which, by law, a person is capable of being legally responsible for all of his or her acts (e.g. contractual obligations), and is entitled to the management of his or her own affairs and to the enjoyment of civic rights (e.g. right to vote). The opposite ofminority. Also the status of a person who is a major in age. Universally, the age of majority is considered as completed age 18. some countries consider completed age 21.
It is the age at which you are considered an adult for purposes of most laws -- including being able to make your own legally binding decisions without your parents being able to override that decision.
You can move out earlier, but unless you are formally emancipated, your parents still have legal authority to make decisions for you.
18 is the 'age of majority.' It is the age at which you cease to be a minor (<18) and become an adult.
When you reach the age of 18, you gain complete legal control over all of your affairs. Before this age, you are still legally a child. You can move out if you like, but, as coragryph points out, your parents still have the legal authority to make decisions for you.
