Can a person receive social security income if he or she is staying home to provide care for elderly parents?

Best Answer:
depends where you live, here surrounded by ireland you would be entitled to carer's allowance.
Yes in Australia you would be entitled to carers pension and your own entitlements
If you have reach the age to qualify for Social Security, and are otherwise eligible, you can collect it under any circumstances. What you do or your income does not affect collecting it. If you have not yet reach qualifying age, then providing for your parents does not allow you to collect it.
Take a look at this site (if you're in the U.S.). it might help http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=320&p_created=959575695&p_sid=PQS-QDzj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD00Miw0MiZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9NDgmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0xLjQ4JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=&p_topview=1
