Question about flag burning...?

If burning the American flag becomes illegal, what existing provision or provisions, if any, of the Constitution would be changed by the proposed amendment? Identify one interest group that supports the amendment and one interest group that opposes it. What is one major argument in favor of the amendment? What is one major argument against it?
It would require repealing the first.
The flag burning crap is something the republicans bring up occasionally to distract americans from real issues. And it works great with the bulk of gullible americans thinking that it matters. It's similar to gay marriage, abortion, etc. Republicans could care less about that crap, but it divides and distracts americans while they loot the US treasury.

An amendment banning flag burning (The Flag Desecration would modify the First Amendment's freedom of expression clause, which the Supreme Court held in Johnson v. Texas (1989) protects flag burning as free speech.

A group opposed to the Amendment is the ACLU. There are also so veterans groups which you should be able to find with a quick goodl search.

A group favoring the amendment--try the GOP, more veterans groups...again, just search google.

Argument opposed: the fact that so many people are so offended by flag burning is what MAKES it an effective political statement. Banning a form of expression that powerful is particularly harmful.

Argument in favor: this is more difficult. The reason people want the ban is that they are deeply offended by such failure to support our troops and disrespect for the founders etc...blah blah. Really, though, the issue is a political football the republicans whip out every few years with no intention of actually getting it passed.
